News flash! Young people have been suffering with acne since the dawn of history. You're not first, and you sure won't be last. Acne is the bane of teenagers everywhere. It has been, it is, and it will be.

The first inclination is to rush to see a dermatologist and get some of that magic skin stuff that will make the acne go away, and the sooner the better. And it's true. There are some very, very good an effective acne medications on the market today, both by prescription and over the counter. But those are not the only choices available.

I don't care what your grandma told you, food does NOT cause acne. Chocolate doesn't cause acne. Fast food doesn't cause acne. Really! However, the lack of certain nutrients CAN contribute to the problem. It's not what you DO eat, but it could be what you DON'T eat that's adding to your acne problem.

The average American diet is atrocious. The average American teenager's diet is far worse than atrocious. You don't have to give up chocolate, pizza, hamburgers, and French fries, but you really should add fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and whole grains to your diet. You'll be surprised what these foods can do for your skin.

Then there are natural treatments for acne that really do work. Tea tree oil is one of them. Tea tree oil is an essential oil that is mixed with carrier oil and
applied directly to the lesions. Tea tree oil is an antibiotic provided by nature. It doesn't burn, and it doesn't make you itch. It just heals your zits.

Also, zinc has been shown to be somewhat effective in preventing acne. Add a zinc dietary supplement. Just don't use too much. Zinc can upset your stomach.

Of course, through, gentle, twice-daily facial cleaning is the first line of defense. Nothing will work if you don't practice good hygiene.
